Why do GallStones form?

Normal human bile has many constituents which can develop into gallstones. To prevent this from happening there are few factors present in bile. When the balance between the factors favouring stone formation and the factors inhibiting stone formation is disturbed, stones form. This typically occurs when the gallbladder is diseased and is unable to distend and contract adequately leading to stagnation of bile.

Signs of GallStones
  • An abdominal ache on the upper right side
When eating fatty foods, there may occasionally be occasional soreness and bloating.
  • Nausea.
  • Dizziness.
  • Vomiting.
  • Diarrhoea with stomach pain.
Treatment for GallStones
  • surgical removal of gallbladder stones:
  • The most effective treatment for gallstones which cause symptoms is surgery (gallbladder removal)The surgery is called cholecystectomy.

  • Laparoscopy is routinely used to perform cholecystectomy.
  • The gallbladder and gallstones will be removed by the surgeon using a few little cuts. For who prefer a scar-free procedure, there is also the option of performing the surgery using a single incision.
Under anesthesia, the cholecystectomy takes one to two hours. In order to see the surgery site more clearly, the surgeon inflates the belly with air or carbon dioxide. The surgeon removes the gall bladder with the aid of a laparoscope.
Patients stay in the hospital for 24-36 hours following laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder. After a few days of soreness, the patient will recover completely. After surgery, the patient must wait at least six weeks before engaging in strenuous exercise or carrying heavy objects.
People who have had a laparoscopic gallbladder removal procedure heal more quickly and effectively than open gallbladder removal surgery patients.

After Gall Stone removal

After gallbladder removal, the storage and concentration function of gallbladder is lost. In patients with gallstones the gallbladder organ is diseased, and even before surgery wasn’t performing this function well. So, the consequences on digestion post-surgery are minimal. Bile trickles down into intestine continuously. Instead of mixing with food in first part of small intestine before surgery, now it mixes a farther away.
In a small percentage of patients, bloating sensation, epigastric burning (acidity) can increase slightly. These are usually mild and can be easily managed with diet and lifestyle modifications. In some patients bloating and acidity symptoms may also improve after surgery.
